NCC Ltd (along with IL&FS) is setting up a 100 MW hydel power project in Sorang in Himachal Pradesh is run-of river hydroelectric scheme in the Kinnaur District. The project will utilise the waters of the Sorang Khad, a major tributary of the Satluj River. The company has received a concession for a period of 40 years. It has formed a special purpose vehicle Himachal Sorang Power Pvt Ltd to implement the project. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 5800 million. The project is likely to go operational in 2013.
Jala Shakti Ltd to set up a 5 MW (2 x 2.5 MW) hydel project across the river Baleni Ka Nallah (a tributary of river Ravi) in Naleni village in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. It will be a run-off-the river scheme and it consists of construction of trench type diversion weir, intake chamber, desilting tank, forebay, penstock and a powerhouse with 2x 2.5 MW Pelton turbines. The power generated will be evacuated to Jarangla/Karian sub-station. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 293 million.
NTPC is setting up the 800 MW Kol Dam hydro project in Satluj in Bilaspur district in Himachal Pradesh over the upstream of Bhakra river. The project is likely to be commissioned by 2013. Around 80% of the work have been completed including the four turbine units (4 x 200 MW) for power generation. The project will depend on water diversion from Bhakra river from upstream to Kol dam, as Bhakra river irrigates most of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. The Himachal Pradesh government will receive 12% free power from the project as royalty.
