MNRE provides grants of Rs.1,10,000 per pico hydel power project

Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has sanctioned Central Financial Assistance at the rate of Rs. 1,10,000 per project and 50 Pico hydro electric plants in Kerala during the year 2012-13. Central Financial assistance will be given to 50 projects on a first-come-first-served basis. The scheme is applicable to projects undertaken by individuals, government departments or local bodies, cooperatives and NGOs. Proposals for Pico hydro electric power schemes owned by women, women entrepreneurs or NGOs run by women will be given preference. The grant in aid will be provided to 50 eligible beneficiaries after successful completion of such schemes on or before October 31, 2013 on a first-come first-served basis

Jala Shakti Ltd to set up a 5 MW (2 x 2.5 MW) hydel project across the river Baleni Ka Nallah (a tributary of river Ravi) in Naleni village in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. It will be a run-off-the river scheme and it consists of construction of trench type diversion weir, intake chamber, desilting tank, forebay, penstock and a powerhouse with 2x 2.5 MW Pelton turbines. The power generated will be evacuated to Jarangla/Karian sub-station. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 293 million.

Reliance Power is to set up the Tato II hydro electric project (4 x 175 MW) across river Siyom in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. A special purpose vehicle in the name & style of Tato Hydro Power Ltd has been formed to build the project on BOT basis. The company has engaged SNC-Lavalin Engineering as owner's consultant for the project. The company has invited tenders in Feb 2012 for awarding EPC works.

Dans Energy to set up the 96 MW Jorethang Loop Hydroelectric Project in Sikkhim. The project involves setting up of a diversion barrage site of 108 meter in length and 13 meter in height in lower reaches of the Rangit river upstream of its confluence with Ramam River, close to the village of Piple.The flow will be directed from the reservoir, through an intake tunnel on the east bank of the river, into a 7.1 km head race tunnel, through a surge shaft and pressure shaft to the powerhouse. The powerhouse will house 2 x 48 MW vertical shaft type Francis turbines, that will be coupled with synchronous generators. The project is progressing well and is scheduled to get commissioned by June 2012

Government to revive Bhagirathi hydel project

Expert Committee has cautioned the government on stoppage of work in an active seismic zone. Following it, government has initiated actions to take a fresh look at the 600 Mw Loharinag-Pala hydel project. Various Committee has recommended to clean the stretch to clean all hydel projects betweeb Gamukh and Haridwar in Uttarakhand. NTPC which has initiated work on the Rs.22000 million project had suspended the work last year on wake of protests.

Manipur govt signs up with SJVN for 1500 MW Tipaimukh hydel project

Manipur government has signed a MoU with SJVN, a joint-venture company of government of India and government of Himachal Pradesh. The project involves setting up of a multi purpose hydro power facility with flood management functions on the river bank of Barak river in Churachandpur district of Manipur. It will form a special purpose vehicle to execute the project and now, a detailed feasibility study report is likely to be prepared. However, there are apprehension in Bangladesh on its impact on its rivers Surma and Kushiara and a large area inundation of Manipur villages.

Menchuka Hydro Power Pvt Ltd plans 70 MW Pema Shelphu hydel power generation project across Yargyap Chu River near village Menchuka in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The project involves setting up of 3.7 km head race tunnel, and 81 meter high concrete gravity dam across river bed.
