Karnataka Neeravari Nigam plans Upper Bhadra Lift Irrigation Project Stage-I in Mutthinakoppa


Karnataka Neervari Nigam is planning to develop upper Bhadra Lift Irrigation project stage I in Mutthinakoppa village in Chikmagalur district of Karnataka. It plans to lift water from Tunga River to Bhadra reservoir in two stages – by constructing a canal from Bhadra reservoir to delivery chamber in 3 lifts and a tunnel of 6.9 kms. The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 59850 million. It may be noted, there is a dam already constructed for Bhadra reservoir.

Maitri Energy Private develops 6 MW Mahadevpura Small Hydel Project



Maitri Energy Pvt Ltd is developing the 6 MW Mahadevpura Small Hydel Project in Mahadevapura village near Shrirangapattna town in Mandya district in Karnataka. The project involves setting up of 4 x 1.5 MW Kaplan turbines with a design head of 4.2 meter. The project will be a run-off-the-river mini hydel project across river Cauvery. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2009 and current status is not known.

Karnataka Power Corp plans 70 MW seasonal power generation unit in Shivasamudram falls

Karnataka Power Corp is planning to construct a 9 m high concrete weir across Cauvery river upstream of Bharachukki falls of Shivanasamudram as a run-of the river scheme to generate 70 MW of power during rainy season. The project may submerge 20 ha of land which is mostly river bed. The project may entail an investment of Rs. 6861 million and may be completed in 30 months time. The project is not yet accorded clearances and studies are on to calculate lean season flow.

Karnataka Power Corp plans 600 MW Kali Pumped Storage Scheme

Karnataka Power Corp is planning to set up a 600 MW Kali Pumped Storage Scheme. The project is proposed across Bare Halla stream which is a tributary to Kali river joining Kali river on the down stream of Kodasalli Dam. After flowing through a distance of around 8 km, the stream drops almost vertically through a height of around 400 m, known as Vajra falls, in a very short distance and joins Kadra reservoir on the down stream of the existing Kodasalli dam. A weir of height 18.0 m across Bare halla stream is proposed at a location just before the falls and its storage capacity to be around 21.0 M cum. The project is very much in planning stage and is yet to get statutory clearances.
