NTPC plans a 600 MW Amochu hydel project in Bhutan

NTPC Limited, is talking to Bhutan Government for setting up a 600 MW hydel power plant in Bhutan through a joint venture . with investment of Rs.36000 million. It is preparing a a detailed project report (DPR) for the 600 MW Amochu hydel power project. It seems, the project will take six months to finalize the contract. If this goes through, it will be first hydel power contract outside India.

NHPC likely to commission two hydel projects by Decemeber 2009


NHPC is all set to commission 132 MW Teesta hydel project in West Bengal by December 2009 and it will also complete 120 MW Sewa – stage III hydel project in Jammu & Kashmir by that time.
 


Security clearance needed for foreign firms bidding for border hydel projects

Increasingly more foreigners /sub-contractors from China, Korea, Russia and Europe work in hydel projects which are very close to international border in Jammu & Kashimir, Arunachal Pradesh etc., this has raised a concern with NSA. Now, Foreign companies that bid and operate in 50 kms from border and in sensitive locations are now may be asked to submit security clearance from the government. This move is to avoid any chance of hydel projects becoming a threat.
