J & K Power Development Corp is planning to set up Kirthai (Stage I) 240 MW hydro electric project across Chenab river in Gulabgarh villages in Kishtwar district of Jammu & Kashmir. The project involves setting up of 122 meter high concrete dam across Chenab river, an underground power house to house 4x60 MW with an investment of Rs. 15000 million. An auxiliary powerhouse of 10 MW is also proposed with a design discharge of 9.5 cumec on the right bank of the river
Ratle Hydro Electric Power Projects Pvt Ltd, a GVK group company is planning to increase the capacity of its upcoming project across Chenab in Kishwar district in Jammu & Kashmir. The project has availed environmental clearance to increase the capacity from 650 MW to 870 MW after asking the company to submit a report on muck generation. The project is likely to go operational by 2017 and 15% of power generated will be supplied to J&K government free of charge. The capacity of the project was revised due to increased water flow data series approved by Central Water Commission
