New technology to generate power from water
Traditionally electricity is generated from water by storing in huge dams which alters ecosystems and landscape in a large way. A technology is in the offing which will generate electricity from a turbine which are submerged underground in a river which will make use natural currents of river. Menchuka Hydro Power Pvt Ltd plans 70 MW Pema Shelphu hydel power generation project across Yargyap Chu River near village Menchuka in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The project involves setting up of 3.7 km head race tunnel, and 81 meter high concrete gravity dam across river bed.Himachal Pradesh Power Corp plans 60 MW Tidong Hydel project
Himachal Pradesh Power Corp plans 60 MW Tidong Khad in Lambar and Charang villages in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The project involves setting up of a 65 meter high concrete gravity dam to generate 60 MW of power in an underground power house 130 meters below natural surface level. Since the dam is situated at an elevated level of 3400 meter in seismic zone, special design considerations have to be taken before the statutory clearances are obtained.Sneha Kinetic Power Projects to set up 96 MW Dikchu Hydroelectric Power Project
Sneha Kinetic Power Projects to set up 96 MW Dikchu Hydroelectric Power Project located in North & East Sikkim districts. The project envisages construction of a 36 m high concrete gravity dam across river Dikchu located between Dikchu & Lingdok villages which is about 1 km upstream of the confluence of River Dikchu with Teesta. This will be a run-of-the river scheme. The power house will be under ground and to be located about 1.5 kms upstream of Dikchu-Teesta confulence . The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 4990 million and is likely to be completed within 48 months from the start date.
