Kerala State Electricity Board is planning to set up the 40 MW (2 x 20 MW) hydro electric project across river Pambar in Idukki district of Kerala. The project involves construction of a 36.5 meter high dam, about 500 meters downstream of Kovilkadavu bridge. The EIA study and other clearance are yet to be obtained. It may be noted, Chinnar wildlife sanctuary is located just 1 km away from the project site

Kerala State Electricity Board to set up Athirappally hydroelectric project(163 MW) located in Chalakudy river basin in Thrissur district of Kerala. The project envisages construction of a reservoir on Chalakudy river with 23m high gravity dam located at 3 km. downstream of the existing Poringalkuthue left bank power house. A surface power house on the left bank of Kannankuzhy Thodu 2 Kms. upstream of its confluence with Chalakudy river having an initial installed capacity of 2 units of 80 MW and a dam toe power house with capacity of 3 MW to utilise the water release for maintaining the water falls and rapids.138 ha. forest land involve in the project out of that 123.20 ha. require permanent diversion.
