NHPC's Parbati-II hydro electric project work has been delayed on account of poor geological strata of the area. Blasting and tunnel boring work are not progressing as per plan and frequent modification are to be carried out to avoid damage to site work. Apart from this, NHPC has a dispute with civil contractor and tunnel boring contractor, Robbins. The project cost has increased from Rs. 39195 million to Rs.42316 million. The project involves setting up of 85 m high, concrete gravity dam, a 6 m x 31.52 km Head Race Tunnel, a 17 m x 130 m surge shaft, 2 m x 3.5m x 2133 m pilot shaft, a surface power house, pelton turbine and a 400 kV switchyard.
HP Power Corp Ltd is setting up a 243 MW Kashang Hydro project in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The project is likely
to entail and investment of Rs.4530 million and has received loan to the tune of Rs.2970 million for the first phase of 65 MW.
Now, as the project has received environmental clearance, it is expected to see further progress in coming months. It may be
noted, the company has already submitted a detailed project report to ADB for finance.

The project has achieved financial closure and phase I of 65 MW is likely to go operational by
2013, while stage II & III are likely to go operational by 2015.
